- CORE FAQ
CORE is for individuals at all stages of their recovery following a paralysis diagnosis and, if applicable, an inpatient hospital stay. Most of our clients have gone through traditional rehabilitation and find that they still desire greater recovery. Olympics athletes train for decades to be at their peak, so giving a person diagnosed with paralysis a very limited window of time for recovery, does not allow for them to achieve their utmost potential. CORE is where we give you the time and platform to train and fight for more.
Traditional rehabilitation is focused on activities of daily living skills designed to teach you how to live your life from a wheelchair or assistive device. Insurance often limits what therapists can and cannot do within their sessions. As a continuum of care center, we are able to go beyond those limitations to truly provide patient centered care that is uniquely individualized to your goals, regardless of time.
We believe in exercise based methods to achieve success. We research all emerging programs and techniques, combine this with what we know from our own work within the field, and assess scientific research to provide a comprehensive program designed to bring the latest of what is occurring in the neurorecovery field to CORE.
By not limiting ourselves to any one particular method, we can continue to grow and adapt the CORE program to provide the most up-to-date, innovative treatments available across an array of modalities.
CORE encourages the newly injured to seek an inpatient post-rehabilitation program to learn the necessary skills to return home. After discharge, CORE is available to individuals and their families for continued, focused training, education, and resources as you navigate the often overwhelming and challenging first year following a paralysis diagnosis.
You most likely have noticed a significant loss of muscle mass, strength, endurance, flexibility as well as difficulties with blood pressure regulation, skin health and integrity, weight imbalances, sleep disturbances and overall mood. This is why movement is so critical. At CORE, our specialists, technology, and equipment are ready to get you moving.
But this program is not just for the newly injured! Prevention of secondary medical complications through our program is key for many CORE clients to lead an active lifestyle outside of the gym. From the newly injured clients to clients 30 years post-injury, we have seen recovery and success through participation in our program. If you would like to speak to one of these clients personally about the benefits they have experienced through the CORE program, we can set this up.
Absolutely! Recovery and health after a devastating diagnosis takes a multi-faceted, collaborative effort from health care providers, therapists, family members/caregivers, and YOU to be the most successful. The Neuro-Exercise Specailists work in conjunction with many therapists across central Florida and the country to compliment and achieve your needs.
CORE cannot guarantee you will walk. However, research has shown that activity based exercise programs are beneficial to persons with neurological disorders. CORE does guarantee to immerse ourselves in the latest research to bring our clients the best treatment options available.
We would also like to acknowledge that “recovery” is very personal. Clients come to us with many different goals. Recovery may mean a quadriplegic gaining enough upper body strength to be able to get dressed independently, or developing enough core balance to safely transfer into a car. We are driven by your personal recovery goals, no matter how high you set them. As goals are met and challenges are overcome, we will work with you to set new ones and strive for more.
This is dependent on the needs of the individual. While CORE loves a dedicated client, we would never want you to give up on your overall life goals. Our greatest achievements are with people, who through the CORE program, have become strong, energized and motivated to pursue college, careers and hobbies that give them a sense of pride and fulfillment. We will work with your schedule to allow you to fight for your recovery while leading a full and rewarding lifestyle.

Private insurance does not typically cover the cost of the CORE program. Many of our clients fundraise individually and have had success using resources such as Help, Hope, Live (formerly NTAF). There are also grants and scholarships available from outside charitable organizations.
We are also very grateful for the immense support of the CORE Foundation, which provides a limited amount of quarterly scholarships to applicants to gain access to activity-based training services.
CORE has had clients from across the country and around the world! We offer Intensive Programs for clients who want to visit from out of town or those that want to boost their program. Whether someone wants to stay for a week or a few months, we can accommodate and individualize a program around your needs and goals. In general, Intensive Programs are a minimum of 12-15 hrs per week with a highly specific program plan ready for you upon arrival.
