Are you looking to boost your ABT experience? Look no further because aquatic training has tons of benefits and gets you moving in a new environment! Muscle weakness, gait abnormalities, tightness, impaired mobility, posture, pain, edema, and compromised balance are all signs that aquatic training may be right for you, and all are things that can be improved in the water.

How is aquatic training different from regular activity-based training? Well, it turns out there’s a lot of science behind it, and we’re here to break it down for you. Water has five physical properties: density, buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, viscosity, and thermodynamics. Density and buoyancy combine to help you float. Hydrostatic pressure puts pressure on the body. Viscosity provides resistance and thermodynamics transfer heat to the body from the water.

How do these properties relate to aquatic training? Buoyancy makes you nearly weightless, meaning there is low-impact on your joints, movements are easier, and you will have better postural alignment. The resistance provided from water’s viscosity is great for building strength. The warm temperature of the water starts acting as soon as the body enters the pool, relaxing muscles, increasing circulation, and promoting flexibility and a wider range of motion. Hydrostatic pressure strengthens respiratory muscles and increases cardiovascular function and circulation.

Aquatic training at CORE has a few added benefits. The underwater treadmill allows for gait practice in a nearly weightless environment, which promotes a more natural gait pattern. Your training program in the gym can be taken right into the water, so you have lower impact and more flexibility when performing exercises you may have difficulty with outside of the water. The pool is indoor and kept a constant 91℉, so it can be used any time of year, in any type of weather.
